Application of Karunen-Loev expansion for the analysis spatially — temporal EEG structures of the healthy and the sick brain

Abstract

Some aspects of application of Karunen-Loev expansion for the analysis of existential EEG signals in a condition of quiet wakefulness and during mental test (the inverse account in mind) at healthy examinees and at patients with schizophrenia are considered. The possibility of a pathological mental condition of patient’s preliminary diagnostics by results of Karunen-Loev expansion in beforehand chosen EEG frequency ranges are shown.

Heart rate variability and stability are the most important characteristics of the cardiovascular system

Abstract

The purpose of the work is examining the stability of cardiovascular system of sportsmen, healthy people, ischemic disease and myocardial infarction patients by using heart rate variability data. 137 people have been examined in rest, during their physical activity and after being operated. The decrease of the heart rate variability parameters SDNN, MxdMn and HF shows the transition from normality to pathology. The decrease of the sensibility of the heart rate variability depending on physical activity and after having been operated on the coronary artery bypass grafting shows the loss of stability by eyesight. The depression of the heart rate with the sympato-adrenal dominant is the marker of the unfavorable issue after the coronary artery bypass grafting. The deterioration of the regulator qualities leads to the loss of the cardiovascular system's stability during physical activity. The violation's degree of parameters of the heart rate variability is influenced by the degree of progress of pathologic process.

Key words: heart rate variability (HRV), cardiovascular system, stability.

Sexual peculiarities of heart rate variability indices reaction in healthy volunteers during the transition processes

Abstract

The dependence of heart rate variability (HRV) indices changes was studied during transition processes from clinostasis to orthostasis in healthy volunteers using technology of nonlinearity parameters analysis. 20 volunteers with median age 20±1,3 year were investigated. Among the HRV parameters we estimated the total power (ÒÐ), and its components in the domains of very low frequency (VLF), low frequencies (LF), high frequencies (HF) and LF/HF ratio. The investigation was based on the method of integral approximation that was implemented on the computer electric cardiograph CardioLab+ (KhÀI-medica). Patients were divided into two groups depending on sex. The data was processed with parametric and nonparametric statistics methods. The results showed that in the clinostasis ÒÐ, VLF and HF are higher in males, LF/HF ratio is lower, and LF meanings are comparable with these in females. The dispersion of all parameters is higher in males. During the transition process ÒÐ, VLF and LF are increasing in both sexes and HF is decreasing. The degree of the last parameter decrease is higher in males, and its dispersion is markedly lower than in females. LF/HF and its dispersion in males is increasing in a greater extent than in females. In the orthostasis ÒÐ, VLF, LF, HF are decreasing in both sexes. ÒÐ dispersion and LF is higher in males and VLF and HF dispersion are comparable in both sexes. LF/HF and its dispersion increases more drastically in males than in females. The most meaningful differences in HRV parameters between males and females are found during the transition processes, this indicates on the importance of their targeted analysis.

Key words: HRV, transition process, sexual peculiarities of reaction.

Blind source separation technology application to biomedical signal processing

Abstract

The traditional methods of the time, spectral and space-time signal processing can be used for the signals extraction from their mixture only in the case when the information about the time and spectral characteristics or the mixing law are available. In the case of absence of such information or its negligibility and similarity of the time and spectral characteristics of mixed signals, the «blind source separation» problem is appear. Its solution is based on statistical independence of separated signals. In this work the some problems of biomedical signal processing where the «blind source separation» method can be effectively used, and fundamentals of Bayesian approach to solving such problem are discussed.

Low contrast radiological image segmentation by means of space-resonance imaging method

Abstract

A new method of radiological image analysis is outlined. The one has high sensitivity to detection of low contrast pathological areas and high stability to influence of anatomical noise. The essence of method is comparing to each pixel of analyzed image some virtual digital filter. Coefficients of the one are brightness of analyzed image. Information features for further analysis are magnitude and frequency extremal points of magnitude–frequency and group–delay characteristics of that filter. Presented experimental results on examples of X—ray CT and mammogram images analysis had shown high information possibilities of the new method in situation when known methods using did not any give positive results.

Key words: radiological image processing, space resonance, low contrast, segmentation, sensitivity, phase characteristic.

Usage of modern technologies for analysis of catamnesis data in patients with breast cancer

Abstract

In work the results of investigations on data arrays of the formalized medical information with usage of modern information technologies are presented. The arrays formed with the help of a specially designed program complex permitting to store the information of any kind and volume and to select from subarrays of any structure, suitable for further processing in standard software. As a data array the data of a catamnesis of the patients with breast cancer of I-II stages were considered. Usage of Data Mining technology has allowed revealing the parameters having information value for forming of disease prognosis. Such parameters are mass index and side of lesion. For substantiation of the hypothesis the traditional methods of statistics were used.

Key words: breast cancer, Data Mining technology, informative parameters.

Information Problems in the Medical Education

Abstract

Problems of information evolution in education with allocation of few primary goals are considered: structuring of the medical knowledge, implementation of the educational standards, creation of pedagogical expert systems and monitoring systems of knowledge. Criteria of system of an estimation of professional training quality are studied: a level of knowledge trained, skills of independent work and skill to put into practice knowledge. It is shown, that educational process as the complete and complex multifactor system may is successful be carried out only at reliable and constant diagnostics of a knowledge level trained with the feedback integrated in this process.

Keywords: distant education, information decentralization of education, quality assessment in the professional training, pedagogical expert systems.
